Do you want to be a top learner?

by Torsten Daerr

Dear friend,

How are you getting along with your English course? What kind of progress have you been making so far? I'm asking this question because you should start monitoring your learning success. How can you do this? Very simple:

When you log on to your forum account and start taking our tests, your results are saved in your personal progress page. Let me give you an example: Sandra is one of our TOP 100 students. On that page you will find a lot of information about Sandra's learning activities, such as how many test questions Sandra has answered so far, how many of her answers have been correct, how much time she has spent answering the questions, which questions she has answered incorrectly, and much more. On top of that, you can also see how many forum messages Sandra has posted so far, and what exactly she has written in the forum.

So don't hesitate -- get cracking right now! One of the tests you need to complete today is called 'The Bells', and it contains a dialogue between two people who are having a hard time understanding each other. When you take the test, make sure that you are logged on to the forum, so all your test results will show up on your progress page.

Friend, I know that in addition to your grammar and vocabulary skills, you also want to improve your pronunciation. That's why Sue is giving you another phonetics lesson today to practice the 'e' and 'a' sounds. If you think that this audio lesson is too short or simple for you, then you should try the following task:

On the page linked below, you will find an audio recording by an American English teacher. His name is Raymond Romanos, and he comes from Connecticut. Ray has been living and working in Leipzig, Germany, and in this recording he tells you his story. It is your task to complete the transcript (the written text) of this recording. The first part has been done for you, but you have to write down the rest of what Ray is saying. You can listen to one sentence or phrase, then stop the audio player to write down the sentence on the forum -- and then click on 'play' again to listen to the next phrase. Please remember that you need to post your sentences on the forum. Good luck! See you on the forum.

Regards,
Torsten
