Amazon is considering upping the game when it comes to inventing means to track its shoppers. The new technology would aim to identify people by scanning customers’ hands. Amazon is making an effort to patent this technology that is supposed to analyze the surface of the skin and the deeper structures of the person’s hand. After making a detailed image of the hand, it would be uploaded to a database in order to identify the customer by hand. Amazon has already tried venturing into biometrics in the case of Whole Foods, where customers would be able to pay by swiping their hand, rather than swiping a card. Although there is no certainty that Amazon would actually realize this patent, it is obvious that new ways of identifying customers are being constantly explored.
