It is considered that sleep is as old as life itself. Healthy sleep is one of the crucial factors that determine somebody’s well-being and resistance to various diseases. Sleep significantly improves our ability for retention of new information, it regulates our appetite and body weight, it helps the body fight off infections and illnesses by strengthening our immune system. However, with the rise of the industrial age and later with modern technology, the quality of sleep has greatly suffered. Artificial lights, the use of mobile phones and tablets in bed, the constant noise and stress negatively affect the healthy sleep. However, the technology can be used in positive ways. For example, people can use light in the morning that gets brighter and brighter instead of loud alarms in order to trick the body into thinking that it is daylight. Most importantly, people should be constantly educated about the health benefits from getting enough healthy sleep because it is crucial for preserving good physical and mental health.
