Australia is topping the list of the greatest meat consumers in the world with approximately 110 kg per capita every year. High meat consumption negatively affects the planet’s ecosystem and human’s health. Despite the fact that the consumption of meat increases the risk for several types of cancer, people continue to largely include meat in their diets. A 2018 survey conducted in Sydney regarding various aspects of meat consumption has shown that the majority of people are unaware of the adverse impact that meat has on their wellbeing and on the planetary health. In fact, close to 90% of the people reported eating meat. Since meat is often considered healthy and beneficial, 19% of the respondents associate it with strength. Although there are new trends that promote plant-based diets, they are still not made popular enough. One way to promote plant-based diets is to link them to vegan athletes and their achievements. There is hope that this approach will inspire more people to make changes in their dietary culture.
