For those of you joining us now, we are minutes away from a historic match between Chan Lee from China and Roger Wake, the current number one player in the world. What makes this a historic match is that this is the first time a man or woman from China has ever made it to the finals in a major event. It’s hard to believe Chan Lee started this tournament as an unranked player and has taken out three top ten players to reach this point today. He’s taken out the #5, #7 and #10 player. What is even more amazing is that China is not known for tennis. We’ve seen great athletes in badminton, table tennis and diving come out of China, but not in tennis. No matter what the outcome of today’s match, Chan Lee has to be proud of his accomplishments in this tournament and will not go home a loser. I’m sure Lee’s performance here so far will encourage a new generation of tennis players to emerge. I have no doubt in the next five to ten years we will be seeing more Chinese men and women winning major tennis events.
