The idea of interacting with a digital world isn’t new. Since the 1980’s, movies have brought conceptual technology to life on the big screen. But in today’s world, those same consumers can now interact with their own digital space.
As technology progresses, we, as consumers, are getting used to constantly new and impressive technological features. Virtual reality has become a comparatively recent trend in the high-tech development having become incredibly popular with the consumer.
Virtual reality is a computer-generated reality that is meant to substitute the “real reality”. It can either stimulate or differ completely from the real world. By putting on special headsets, a person can get immersed in the computer-generated sensibility that highly resembles the actual world around us.
What is the purpose of virtual reality? Virtual reality technology is used to create immersive experiences that can help educate and even entertain consumers. Outside of its popular gaming use, virtual reality is applied in a variety of industries, such as medicine, architecture, military and others.
There are certain advantages to virtual reality:
- It creates interest – for some it’s more enjoyable than reading.
- It improves educational value – doctors take advantage of the VR technology to know about the new traits of medicine.
- It helps to overcome language barriers, especially in the field of education.
- It allows students to get engaged - With the introduction of the Virtual Reality technicality, interaction with the student has become so easy
Although there are many more advantages, there are also disadvantages:
- People get involved too much in virtual reality, and, thus, lose interest in the actual reality.
- There is no scope for positive interaction in a classroom situation.
- Ineffective human connections.
- It is addictive - People already spend too much time staring at the computer screens or smartphones, and virtual reality would lead to more time staring at a screen, removed from reality.
