Steve: Did you see the person who ran? Could you identify him or her? (Cy shakes his head no.) Well, tomorrow we'll call the police; tonight you are going to stay at my apartment.
(Cy beams and smiles at both of them. The waiter serves them steaming hot garlic bread and salad. Shortly afterwards, he brings plates full of pasta and linguini sauce.)
Steve: (Noticing that Natalie is barely eating) Is anything wrong with the food? I can order something else if you don't like it.
Natalie: I'm sorry; the food is delicious. I was just preoccupied wondering how Ken is managing. I called him earlier, but the neighbor said he was asleep.
Cy: This is delicious; So much better than eating alone! Steve, after what happened in the lab today, I was a little worried about my research notes. If anyone got their hands on them…..Steve, I need to ask a favor… I trust you and would like you to hide my notes somewhere. I'm not sure they are safe in the lab.
Steve: Are you sure about this? Thanks for your trust in me, Cy. Let me know when you want this back. (Cy hands him a small ledger. Steve puts it inside his breast pocket. He calls the limo driver to tell him they would be ready to leave in 10 minutes. Natalie excuses herself to go to the ladies room. A short time later, she returns wearing a big smile.
Natalie: I just talked to Ken. He had an unexpected visitor; an old Army buddy called and is going to be in town for a few days for a medical convention. Bob was an orthopedic surgeon here in Chicago before going into the Army. He understood exactly what Ken is going through. Ken talked him into staying at the house for a few days.
Steve: That's great, Natalie. It sounds like he's in good hands.
Natalie: Yes, it almost seems too good to be true! I've been so worried about him and now Bob shows up. I think I'll be able to relax a little more now. Is anyone having dessert?
Steve: (laughing) Yes, I'm going to have Spumoni; would anyone else like some?
After enjoying dessert, they go outside. A delivery truck is parked in front of the restaurant so they have to cross the street to get in the limo. There is little traffic on the street, but they look both ways and proceed to go to the car. The chauffeur sees them and gets out of the car to open the back door.
Suddenly a car flashes its lights and roars toward them. They are blinded by the brightness. Cy pushes Natalie and Steve out of the way, as the car hits him and speeds away. Dr. Cy Krueger lies lifeless in the street.
