How many appointments do you have?

by Torsten Daerr

Good morning Friend,

How many appointments do you have a week? I take it you know what an appointment is? Yes, it's a meeting with a purpose. For example, if you want to see a lawyer, you make an appointment with them. All important people are busy and all busy people have lots of appointments because they need to discuss questions with other people and make decisions. So if you want to improve your English, you should start conducting your meetings in English. Have you noticed that my last sentence contained the word 'if'? You probably remember what we call such sentences, don't you? Yes, those are the "conditionals". Alan has written a wonderful and funny story that contains a lot of conditionals and of course he has also written tests that help you get a handle on these tricky constructions. Don't worry, you'll find the links to all the materials below.

There is one other important thing I'd like to share with you. Many of my students have asked me how to get in touch with me. Well, if you have any question related to the English language, the best place to get an answer is the forum. Of course you can also send me an email but the forum has a lot of advantages. First of all, if you post your question on the forum, you might get an answer within a few minutes. That's because a forum post is read by our team of English teachers while your email is read only by one person. Secondly, you usually receive a much more detailed response on the forum since our teachers and language coaches come from different countries and have different backgrounds. Thirdly, when you post your questions or comments on the forum, other English learners can read them and learn from the answers you receive. There are even more reasons why you should use the forum instead of email, which I will share with you later.

And now it's time for your exercises. Let's start with Sue's audio session which is about appointments. Here is the link.
If you want to learn more about the conditionals, you should read this story.
Once you have learned how to use the conditionals, you can take this test.

As usual, I hope to get in touch with you on the forum.

See you.
Torsten
