When somebody mentions solar farms, the last place that comes to mind is Alaska. Given that daylight hours are minimal for a large part of the year, producing solar energy sounds like science fiction. However, the Willow solar farm, which is in the vicinity of Anchorage, makes all of this a reality. This proves that the desire to explore renewable sources can yield results in the strangest of places. The Alaskan solar company Renewable IPP set up the Willow solar farm, making it the largest in the state. What prompted this company to pilot this project is the speed of climate change particularly in the Arctic and its surroundings. In fact, the four business partners that founded Renewable IPP met while working in the oil industry. They decided to explore different sources of energy, ones that would not harm the environment, so they took their mutual interest in solar energy and transformed it into a real project.
