Many have witnessed the aged speak about their times like it was the best. This might be hard to accept because the younger generation has witnessed the best technological innovations that have greatly improved quality of life. But while the technology was on the rise, social life reduced and the economic burden increased; these are all interlinked.
New pricey attractive technological innovations were introduced. People had to work more to earn enough to acquire them outrightly or get them on credit and be in debt. Comparing the population in debt in the whole of the 20th century to the current 21st, the results are staggering. Both the cost and standard of living is supposed to be better with all these innovations but ironically, there’s so much to acquire. You’re forced to be a debtor; which leads to more time at work and less with family and friends, ultimately a reduced social life.
The simplicity helped to maintain a balance. The beauty of the absence of technology is underrated. If you only look at development from a technological point then you see progress, but in the overall sense of what development means, we are far from it and maybe regressing.
