The days of the regular office environment are coming to an end. That’s if the current trend of co-working spaces is anything to go by anyway. An increasing number of major businesses such as Nokia, Apple and Intel are improving employee creativity and job satisfaction by moving towards remote, coworking work spaces and flexible working hours. They also hope that this change in approach will help them to attract the best talent by offering a better work-life balance. People born in the mid to late 1990s, known as Generation Z, are not attracted to the traditional office environment, preferring to work in their own environment, as they feel they can be more productive while in less formal, more relaxing surrounds. Given that modern technology allows us to be connected and to work from just about anywhere, these companies now see the benefits of offering workplace flexibility. As well as boosting productivity and creativity, a study carried out by Regus has found that by allowing employees a shorter commute to work, companies have also been able to reduce their carbon footprint, while the employees are saving up to 3 hours of commuting per day by working closer to home.
