Nowadays, large cities across the globe are burdened with high traffic volumes that stifle day-to-day travel. To alleviate this problem, The Boring Company (owned by Elon Musk) proposed drilling underground tunnels in several US cities such as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago and Baltimore with the hopes of revolutionizing the way people travel. Boring is now developing high-speed Loop and Hyperloop transportation systems that will enable travelers to bypass traffic and maneuver around cities much faster and more efficiently. The systems would achieve this by transporting passengers in autonomous, underground “pods” that could travel up to 155 miles per hour with the possibility of reaching an upwards of 600 miles per hour in the future. Currently, Boring’s first system is being developed in Las Vegas, USA and is expected to be fully functional by 2021.
