Every year between March and May, the season of Hanami begins, and it will usually attract Japanese people and many tourists. This is the season when lots of cherry blossoms can be seen and it is beautiful. However, this year, people are not able to enjoy this special time due to the coronavirus pandemic. All events have been cancelled and tourists are unable to travel and visit beautiful places such as these. This time of the year is absolutely vital for Japan in an economic and cultural sense. Usually, family and friends spend time together during this special season. Many people take photos amongst the cherry blossoms.
The majority of Japanese cherry blossoms are light pink, although they may be white, dark pink or even yellow. In addition, there are more than 200 Japanese cherry tree varieties that are either wild or cultivated. Last year, there were about 8.5 million tourists that visited the country during cherry blossom season. This brought about 650 billion yen ($6 billion) to the country. People tend to spend a lot of money at this time, especially eating and drinking. In order to tackle the pandemic, measures put in place will have a serious impact on tourism this season. As a result, revenues will fall from over a third to less than 400 billion yen.
