Batteries are regularly used to power things such as mobile devices, computers—and more recently—vehicles and homes. The advancements in this field has grown tremendously in the past 10 years, and the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) predicts that the global market for energy storage systems will grow as high as $426 billion over the next 10 years as batteries are expected to rival other forms of utility storage in the future. Tesla, for example, recently installed the largest lithium-ion battery energy storage facility on the planet in South Australia, capable of powering 30,000 homes. Solar and wind energy systems are leading the way with clean power generation; however, a battery energy storage system provides a clean, constant source of power, even when nature is unwilling to cooperate and supply sufficient sun and wind.
