Working five days a week is bad for the environment. Many companies in different countries are seriously considering cutting down one day of the work week. A 32-hour work week is becoming more and more appealing due to various reasons. First, the employees’ wellbeing is expected to improve, as well as their satisfaction and productivity. People would have more time to spend with their families and to take up hobbies. Also, with a three-day weekend, workers would be less likely to miss work due to health reasons. Nevertheless, one of the most important reasons for making such a change in the companies’ work hours is the chance to make a positive environmental impact. The carbon footprint would be dramatically reduced if people stop commuting even for a day. This reduction would significantly affect climate change in the future.
