The use of technology is always an advantage. It is the backbone of countries and organizations, and an extra hand to the individual. As great an assistant it has been to mankind; it’s also responsible for some of the most catastrophic events ever recorded. These events are mostly as a result of organizational negligence.
While examining the Chernobyl disaster, a nuclear accident in Ukraine, which rendered the entire area unhabitable for both humans and animals; we can see that errors by employees only slip through the cracks if the entire structure of the organization is faulty. One thing both technology and organizations have in common is man, their creator. It is obvious man is still in the process of understanding his creations fully and therefore disasters happen.
Thankfully, there are measures being put in place prevent these disasters. The United States' disaster response agency FEMA recently created a division specially for technological disasters. With more countries headed towards the same direction the end of technological disasters is near.
