FutureLearn is an online platform offering various courses developed by UK and international universities and institutions, such as the British Council, the British Library, the British Museum and the National Film and Television School. The platform was first launched in 2013 and has since seen millions of people enroll in its courses. To utilize FutureLearn’s services, users start out by browsing for a course that suits them. Courses typically range from six to ten weeks long, but there are also shorter courses that last just two to three weeks. Subjects offered include language, creative arts and media, healthcare and medicine, nature and the environment, psychology and mental health, politics and society, and IT and computer science. Like other platforms, FutureLearn gives the option to learn for free or upgrade a course package to include additional benefits. Free courses are available for the duration of the course plus an additional fourteen days thereafter. However, once a user pays to upgrade a course, they receive unlimited access to the course, any supplemental course tests and a FutureLearn Certificate of Achievement or Statement of Participation upon completion of the course.
