Dymka, a Russian female cat was rescued from a road in Siberia, suffering from severe frostbite. She lost her paws, ears and tail due to harsh temperatures. Veterinarians saved her life through surgery by replacing her front and back leg paws with 3D-printed prosthetics. These prosthetics are made of titanium. The metal paws were fused to the cat's leg bones. Her limbs were fitted with prosthetics in two different procedures. Dymka is now the second cat in the world with all four prosthetic limbs. Scientists have used a special chemical coating to reduce the possibility that the cat's body would reject implants. These prosthetics are made in the shape of the cat's paws. She is now able to walk, run, play and climb stairs. A similar procedure was also performed on a male cat named Ryzhik who suffered from frostbite too.
