Stepan Gorgusta, an optical engineer, and his team developed a heart rate and respiration tracking T-shirt. The design had to be in a position to receive signals from the person wearing it. Another important point is that the T-shirt should not be tight at all. The concept here is to make it feel and fit like a regular T-shirt. There are no wires or electrodes on this T-shirt, but it has a pliable antenna sewn inside. The amount of air inside the lungs varies as a person breathes and the electric properties of the air vary from those of the body. A pattern can be identified easily because people breathe regularly. It seems that Gorgusta's T-shirts aren't the only ones in development. A number of researchers with diverse backgrounds are collaborating to find new ways to diagnose or track people with clothing. At some stage, clothing like this will support first responders in emergency situations and newborns. This is certainly a great way to gather valuable information from the body, and it will be beneficial in the future.
